Fairness and the Arizona Law

After the Arizona law passed and was signed into law by the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (who was correctly representing the wishes of her constituency), “Barack Obama” tweeted in this official statement.

The link attached to the Obama tweet links to a 21 minute naturalization ceremony for those immigrants who have come to our country and are going to earn citizenship by serving in the finest public institution in the United States, the United States Military. Setting aside the obvious disgusting tactic of using the ceremony – which should celebrate the commitment of good people wanting to join the greatest country in the world and willing to put their lives on the line to do it – for political pontificating, Barack Obama roughly made something similar to the tweeted official statement during his speech. What I find truly ironic is that he made a call for “fairness”. The enforcement of federal laws is now ruled “unfair”. To imply that the questioning, detainment and deportation of illegal immigrants by writing a state law that literally mirrors the federal law is somehow “unfair” to immigrants everywhere is an insult to immigrants who came through the process legally and it is certainly an insult to those servicemen sitting in the courtyard in the video.
